Sounds about right that is for the most that light up
To young to know there sending there self’s to a prison
With slim chance of a pardon or parole
Some lucky with good behavior and wisdom beyond there years
Will release there self’s early and save some misery
But most I believe will pull there time 25 to life
And be damm lucky if they can get away with the least of these
Being 25 and not giving there life , for a crime never committed
Just the stupidity of a child , a lighter and a cigarette
But as with so many people from a prison or even military
Find it so hard to adjust to civilian life. Many will re join an army to go into a danger not seen, others break a parole to return to a life behind bars
Three hots and a cot , the only life they know.or better said, remember Believing This is who they are. Unwilling to try
For more then a day or a month ,a year To adjust to this world on the out side, a life of freedom
Full of choices and temptations. Saying to them self’s or even worst
Believing Its just to hard. to do this! Much easier just to return to familiar ground
One can almost think prison must not be so bad., After all we all know there full
And A third of them have had a parole or served there time once. Only again to find them self’s back on the inside. With the majority saying and believing they would rather be free If only they could do it
But have not yet found the right tools to break loose from there chains and shackles
Sentenced and paroled, sentenced and paroled.
So around and around this goes until some place around 25 years to life
They have become older and wiser , seen , witnessed have been exposed and heard of so many men and women before them
Fighting for there lifes and worst some lie dieing. A life gone to a cancer. From a crime never committed
Only guilty of being children once playing with cigarettes and lighters
maybe it is from a strength left behind by the valiant who fought before us
Our fathers or perhaps brothers, instills a courage for the ones whom wish to do battle to break these chains of addiction
Or perhaps the young our sons and our daughters that look to the future and the desire to set an example of a life of freedom not chains. That gives the strength to others
Or maybe its just plan and simple truth a insurmountable fear that most struggle to become free after serving there term . That if they stay much longer pushing the jailer playing with fire the only place left Is
Death Row
